Zakir Hussain is one of the world’s greatest tabla players and a chief architect of contemporary world music, forging a unique musical niche through collaborations with artists such as John McLaughlin, Mickey Hart, and the Kodo drummers of Japan. Under the direction of Hussain, Masters of Percussion offers both melodic (raga) and rhythmic (tala) development and features the traditional repertoire from both Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) classical traditions, North Indian drumming on solo tabla, and explorations of the musical frontier.
