Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy of innocent young lovers falling victim to family hatred and cruel destiny has never been so enjoyable or as dangerous as in this stirring new production. Combining the artistry of two of America’s great theaters, Minneapolis’ Guthrie Theater and The Acting Company, Romeo and Juliet exquisitely embodies the brief joy of youthful passion and ecstasy. Directed by Penny Metropulos from Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the play evokes the deeply moving lyricism of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Swords clash, everlasting love is promised, and a treacherous sleeping potion is swallowed in the greatest love story of all time.
