“About as badass as highbrow gets.” —Rolling Stone
Reid Anderson, bass; Ethan Iverson, piano; David King, percussion
Jazz trio The Bad Plus returns to the Flynn to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Igor Stravinksy’s The Rite of Spring. Known for radically playful jazz covers of everyone from Blondie to Nirvana to Milton Babbitt, the group takes on its most ambitious project to date: a stripped-down and sonically luminous multimedia reinterpretation of Stravinsky’s groundbreaking modernist hit. The piece, also known for its appearance in the Disney film Fantasia, caused a riot at its 1913 premiere and has been called “one of the greatest creative leaps in the history of the arts." The evening rounds out with selections from the group’s popular repertoire performed on piano, bass, and drums.
