Gretchen Parlato weaves classic jazz, bossa nova, and soul with unmatched warmth and ingenuity—scatting, cooing, leaning back, and then soaring. Winner of the 2004 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition, Parlato’s originality captivates musicians as well, with appearances on over 50 recordings with the likes of Terence Blanchard, Kenny Barron, Terri Lynn Carrington, and Esperanza Spalding. Her last album, The Lost and Found, topped year-end polls for Jazz Times, the Village Voice, and NPR. The Boston Globe calls Parlato “a conflux where hope, sensuality, and tragedy all merge . . . the most original jazz singer in a generation.”
