The festival ends on a thrilling note with iconic American composer George Crumb’s Songbook, a collection of spirituals for baritone, piano, and an armada of percussion instruments that will fill the Elley-Long stage. On the first half of the program will be coloristic piano works by Debussy and Chopin, two composers from whom Crumb draws great tonal inspiration, and an exciting work for violin and piano by one of Crumb’s most noted recent students, LCCMF Resident Composer David Ludwig.

Debussy, L'apres-midi d'un faune for two pianos
David Ludwig, Swan Song
Chopin, Nocturnes, op. 48, nos. 1 & 2
George Crumb, American Songbook II, “A Journey Beyond Time”

Christopher Froh and Ayano Kataoka, percussion
Eduardo Leandro and Ian David Rosenbaum, percussion
Gilbert Kalish and Gloria Chien, pianos
Randall Scarlata, baritone
Benjamin Beilman, violin

A pre-concert talk takes place at 2:15 pm.
