Providing a bridge from the “jazz capitol” of the world with Burlington’s vibrant scene, local jazz luminaries Ray Vega (trumpet) and Robison Morse (bass) join New York's Will Sellenraad (guitar) and Victor Lewis (drums) to shed light on the future of jazz here in Burlington. Despite performing and recording with scores of virtuosic players, Victor Lewis’ quiet command makes clear who’s driving. In breakneck backbeats countered by featherlight brushwork and ride-heavy leads, the classically-trained drummer composes with ambience, texture, and tone. Working in New York in the 1970s, Lewis caught the ear of composer/trumpeter Woody Shaw, with whom Lewis honed his chops before continuing with jazz giants such as Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Kenny Barron, Chet Baker, and others.
