"Earnest but impassioned political idealism and sunny pop choruses."—The Guardian

Hip-hop trailblazers Arrested Development have proffered socially-conscious music since 1991. Their songs analyze and celebrate black reality simultaneously, resulting in fluid, beat-heavy works of equal force and funk. The Grammy-winning group’s song Tennessee is a quintessential hip-hop standard and was voted one of the “500 Songs that Shaped Rock in Roll” by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Their hit song Mr. Wendal brought much needed attention to the plight of the homeless and the group gave half the single's royalties to the National Coalition of the Homeless. Profoundly influential in the ‘90s, AD continue their prolific career into the 21st Century in both music and activism. The group recently performed in Atlanta alongside Congressman and civil rights leader John Lewis at the March for Social Justice.

Formed by Burlington’s Craig Mitchell out of love for Prince and his music, Operation Prince began at Club Metronome during Burlington’s Discover Jazz Festival 2010. Performing the hits of The Artist Formerly Known as “The Artist Formerly Known as Prince,” Mitchell collaborates with some of Burlington’s mightiest musicians to draw out the flamboyantly funky power of the Purple One. Following Prince’s passing in 2016, Mitchell and crew sold out the Higher Ground Ballroom in a celebration of the late pop genius’s ongoing musical legend.
