Michael Chorney spent the last few years arranging the music of Sun Ra, Paul Bowles and Kurt Weill, and has applied those ideas to create a full evening of new original works for chamber-jazz sextet. His first body of instrumental work since 2003 explicitly explores the union of lyrical song-form sensibility with the harmonic language and improvisational spirit of jazz. This work was partly commissioned by the Flynn Center, and was chosen for a New Works Grant from the Vermont Community Foundation.
