Bajofondo is an eight-member collaborative of Argentinian and Uruguayan musicians contemporizing the traditional styles of their Río de la Plata region. Bandleader Gustavo Santaolalla is a consecutive two-time Oscar winner for Best Original Score (Brokeback Mountain and Babel) who with his full band crafts infectious dance compositions that combine regional influences of tango, murga, milonga, and candombe with elements of hip-hop, jazz, and electronic music. Since Bajofondo’s runaway success of their debut record, Bajofondo Tango Club, the group has developed sophisticated means to refreshing traditions while forging a sound completely their own.
