“As much an amalgam of musical styles as they are a blend of culture and history.” —Washington Post

Composer and violinist DBR (Daniel Bernard Roumain) teams up with spoken-word artist and arts activist Marc Bamuthi Joseph in Blackbird, Fly, a concert for voice, body, and strings. Together, these two American sons of Haitian immigrants explore themes of family history, folklore, politics, and race, all of it coursing with the rhythm and energy of hip-hop. Roumain is a musician without borders, equally at home composing for an orchestra at Carnegie Hall or accompanying Lady Gaga on American Ido. Joseph is a brilliant wordsmith and a captivating performer who got his start acting on Broadway and won the 1999 National Poetry Slam.

This show is presented in conjunction with the University of Vermont’s Martin Luther King Celebration 2018.

Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity, and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.
