“Plainly a masterpiece . . . a study in tight camaraderie and repeated loss.” —Seattle Times
Conceptually and visually astounding, Thousand Yard Stare is imbued with a spectrum of emotion and physicality. To develop her dancers’ movements, choreographer Jessica Lang draws upon conversations with veterans to explore modes of fear, camaraderie, friendship, and love with beauty and clarity. The piece is set to the adagio movement of Beethoven’s String Quartet No.15, a musical argument between hope and despair composed in the throes of near-fatal illness. The Long Island-based company honors the postmodern tradition of Merce Cunningham and Lucinda Childs while incorporating contemporary narratives.
