“A pinch-me moment, one of those times when you catch an artistic dawning . . . Malpaso’s Dancers were exceptional.” —LA Times

Havana-based Malpaso is Cuba’s first independent dance company. For its Flynn debut, the company brings three pieces exploring different aspects of Cuban culture. In 24 Hours and a Dog, an invisible canine forces dancers to keep pace in a hectic world, set to music written and performed by Grammy-winning Cuban-American jazz composer Arturo O’Farrill. In Porque Sigues (Why You Follow), celebrated New York choreographer Ronald K. Brown blends African, Cuban, and western dance while exploring beats and rhythms within music and our bodies; and in Ser, company member Beatriz Garcia provides an exemplary foundation for Cuban choreographers.

Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity, and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.
