“His reputation as a guitar player has become almost mythical, combining rock and classical techniques with Malian tunings that make the guitar sound like a kora or ngoni.”—New York Times

One of Africa’s most recognized musicians, guitarist and composer Habib Koité is a modern troubadour with international appeal. His guitar style ranges from the open-stringed intimations of the n'goni to sounds closer to the blues or flamenco. Above the rhythmic alchemy of his acclaimed group Bamada, Koité’s restrained voice varies cadence to create a new pan-Malian approach, reflecting his transcendence of genre and interest in music beyond borders. Koité’s artistry has earned him the adoration of fans such as Jackson Browne and Bonnie Raitt, with whom Koité has collaborated. On his last trek to Burlington, Koité astounded a MainStage audience. This time, the Malian master and Bamada present a repertoire of Koité’s decades-long career to an intimate FlynnSpace audience.
