“Abozekry has a stunning command of his instrument, as well as an open ear for other forms.” —Paste

With his group, Karkadé, Mohamed Abozekry fuses Egypt’s popular and classical music traditions with virtuosity and mystique. Sufi calls and secular poetry mark a musical pathway to an Arab world at peace with its history and turned towards the future. “I never move backwards,” Abozekry says of his songs, “but in a circular motion, returning to the place I started from with more experience.” Abozekry returns to the Flynn following his appearance with the The Nile Project in 2015.

Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity, and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.
